After the end of Second World War – like in many other nations in the former East and West – mass tourism infrastructure represented a driving force for the modernization of society and economy. In the case of the newly established FR of Yugoslavia it was of even greater importance: Hotels and resorts therefore had been stages and meeting points to showcase the „success” of it’s unique third way politics of the non alignment movement and workers self management to both domestic and international guests.
Due to the war, the use as refuge camps, delayed privatization, legal insecurity related to ownership, and other reasons, the current status of these brilliant symbols of modernization range from decent to tasteless refurbishments and to surprisingly many vacant melancholic ruins.

Within the first tour of the Motel Trogir  project in the city of Split, we will visit urban and architectural complex DOBRI part of which is the first skyscraper built in Split, designed by the architect Vuko Bombardelli, which represents the materialization of some of his ideas about rational living. Then, following the line of Kalogjera’s extension of the city center we will pass by four department stores built during the 1960s, and finish at Koteks shopping center built in the late seventies as the culmination of a social process in which shopping becomes an important part of the programmed socialist leisure. The theme of this tour is actually a post-war housing and shopping, two key components of introducing modernity in the socialist everyday of Split …

Duration: 2 hours

HR

TOUR 2 _VILLA ZAGORJE

Vila Zagorje_ Ostrogovic_ Richter

POSJET VILI I PARKU PREDSJEDNIČKOG UREDA NA PANTOVČAKU/ GUIDED TOUR TO THE VILLA AND THE GARDEN OF THE PRESIDENTIAL OFFICE IN ZAGREB, PANTOVČAK

Architects: Kazimir Ostrogović, Vjenceslav Richter_ 1964.

The tour starts on May 30 from 11 am

EN

The residence which today houses the Office of the President of the Republic, previously known as “Villa Zagorje”, completed in 1964, was designed by architect Vjenceslav Richter in cooperation with Kazimir Ostrogović. The project was created on the basis of the proposal designed by the architect Drago Ibler who also chose the location for a villa within the complex. The visit/our tour will only partly cover the Presidential Park, which is a regulated landscape unit from the 1960s, and covers an area of about 95 hectares. Authors of the landscape design and immediate surroundings of the Presidential villa are the prominent landscape architect Silvana Seissel and Angela Rotkvić. The area of the park is also equipped with statues of some of the most prominent Croatian artists. The park has been properly maintained. Earlier this year, the platform 1POSTOZAGRAD/1 PERCENT FOR THE CITY launched an initiative to open the Presidential park to the public.

HR

OBILAZAK ZGRADE U ZORKOVAČKOJ// GUDED TOUR TO THE RESIDENTIAL BUILDING IN ZORKOVAČKA STREET IN ZAGREB, TREŠNJEVKA

Architects: Branko Raos, Slavko Jelinek (1963-1964).

The tour starts on May 23 from 11 am

EN

The eight-story residential building in Zorkovačka street in Zagreb is the first large building of the collective housing in the area of Trešnjevka. It was built in 1963-1964 according to the main project by the architect Slavko Jelinek. The building is the gallery type with highly elongated rectangular ground plan, with two stair cores, galleries in the north and mutually oriented housing units loggias facing south. On the terrace of the ninth floor hidden by the wall, there is an atelier penthouse. The open surface of the meadow in the south enables a free vision of the building with which it forms a high-quality spatial unit. This contemporary architectural and functional design solution is a valuable example of the modern architecture of the 1960s in Croatia (at the time being part of the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia).

HR

Suvremenim graditeljskim i funkcionalno-oblikovnim rješenjem predstavlja vrijedan primjer moderne arhitekture šezdesetih godina XX. stoljeća.
