Le Bordel Synthétique and other stories. Public lecture by Anders Härm

  • LOOSE ASSOCIATIONS: LINES OF MOVEMENT
  • MAMA. Preradovićeva 18, Zagreb
  • February 10 (Thursday) at 7pm

Le Bordel Synthetique was the title of the exhibition that took place in Tallinn at the turn of the year, in December 2021-January 2022 and marked one stoppage in the ongoing artistic research project by an artist of Estonian descent, Olga Jürgenson, that started in 2017. The project was triggered by one simple fact that might very well be a turning point on the road towards trans- or posthumanist era, marking perhaps a fundamental change in the relations of humans and things, humans and robots. Namely three first hyperrealistic sex dolls with artificial intelligence were launched – Samantha in Spain, Harmony in USA and Emma in China. And at the same year also first brothel opened where instead of real people dolls served the customers. This presentation tries to contextualise this exhibition in the debate over posthumanism that has been going on over past few decades but focuses more on radical (identity) politics where the discourse stems from rather than on consequences of the antropocene that dominates posthumanist discourse today.

Anders Härm (1977) is a curator, lecturer at the Estonian Academy of Art and the head of Curatorial Studies program. He has worked as a curator at Tallinna Kunstihoone (2002-2012) and as the chief curator of EKKM, The Museum of Contemporary Art of Estonia (2010-2015). His recent projects include Ando Keskküla’s (1950-2008) solo show “Reality and Technodelics” in the KUMU Art Museum in 2020, “Xenos” at EKKM in 2019 and “The X-Files. Registry of the Ninties” at KUMU Art Museum in 2018/2019. He has curated Estonian pavilion in Venice architecture biennale in 2000 and art biennale in 2003.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

Loose Associations: Lines of Movement is a cycle of lectures and conversations based on direct contacts and exchanges with colleagues from different contexts, with the intention of bringing them closer to the domestic audience through public talks. It is, in a way, sharing with the local community some of the information/ knowledge(s)/ experiences we gained as cultural workers during our stays elsewhere, within a professional framework. On the other hand, the intention is to map current events on the art scenes and cities/places with which we are often not in direct contact and to give a carte blanche to colleagues from these contexts. They are invited to present their recent work, interest or concerns in the context of contemporary art, theory, culture and beyond.

Le Bordel Synthétique i druge priče

“Reality and Technodelics” u Muzeju umjetnosti KUMU 2020., “Xenos” na EKKM-u 2019. i “The X-Files. Registar devedesetih” u Muzeju umjetnosti KUMU 2018./2019.

Program Slobodne veze: Linije kretanja podržava Ministarstvo kulture i medija RH i Grad Zagreb- Gradski ured za kulturu, međugradsku i međunarodnu suradnju i civilno društvo
