  • FOR ARTISTS AND RESEARCHERS (PREFERABLE FROM CROATIA, BUT ARTISTS FROM ELSEWHERE ARE ALSO INVITED TO APPLY)

Why this residency?

As a follow-up to the Flowing Connections project (2020-2023) and the biennial OSTRALE O21: BREATHTURN, which was held in Dresden as part of it, Slobodne veze and Art Quarter Budapest (aqb) continue their cooperation through artistic exchange and a pilot program of artistic residencies in Budapest and Zagreb. Open calls for artists have been launched by both institutions at the same time.

What are we looking for?
Artists and/or theorists with a special interest in post-industrial/modernist environments from the second half of the 20th century in loose connections with their own (artistic) practice.

What do we offer?

  • A three-week residency at ART QUARTER BUDAPEST (aqb).
  • Covered travel costs or equivalent costs: Zagreb- Budapest- Zagreb by bus/train/car.
  • A fully furnished room within a communal apartment located on the aqb premises.
  • A total amount of 500 euros for living expenses for the whole period of stay.

What do we expect?
Engaged interest in local context, social/art scene and urban environments with the possibility of further cooperation. Public presentation or artist talk during your stay, is possible.

Who are we?

SLOBODNE VEZE/ LOOSE ASSOCIATIONS
Slobodne veze/Loose Associations, a platform for contemporary art, is a citizens’ association based in Zagreb. The association operates in Croatia and abroad as a curatorial collective, producer, organizer of various cultural events. So far, they have (co)curated numerous exhibitions, symposia and (art) projects in public space, including two contemporary art biennials, MEDITERRANEA 16 Young Artist Biennale in Ancona, Italy (2013) and OSTRALE biennale O21 in Dresden, Germany (2021). They are also active as publishers and cultural activists, especially focused on the protection and critical reevaluation of modernist architecture of the second half of the 20th century on the Adriatic coast and beyond.

AQB Budapest

AQB is an independent art center in Budapest, Hungary. It was initiated in 2012 and it functions as an exhibition place for contemporary art, a studio house, and an artist-in-residence program in a uniquely renovated factory building, the former Haggenmacher brewery. Numerous Hungarian visual artists and creative enterprises found their constant base in the building complex. AQB runs an international residency program, provides space for a unique experimental sound studio, and organizes exhibitions in its non-profit Gallery called Project Space. AQB became a cultural melting pot of an international creative community with a wide variety of artists from music, applied arts, dance, and visual art scene. Focusing on our audience development we are organizing art events and cultural programs for the local community and also creating international networks at the same time.

Send us a short CV not longer than 1 page, a portfolio and short motivation letter or project proposal until April 20 to this mail:
slobodne.veze@gmail.com with a title FLOC RESIDENCY 2023 IN BUDAPEST. Applications should be written in English.


Results will be announced until April 25th.

NOTE:
If you decide to apply, please make sure that you can start the travel on May 4th and be at the residency for the whole period of three weeks.

This program is part of the Motel Trogir 2023 project, which is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia and the Kultura nova Foundation. The residency is the final part of the Flowing Connections (FLOC) collaborative project funded through the European Union’s Creative Europe program.
