Stoga, iako materijalno određene, privatne kolekcije mogu predstavljati i sisteme iskaza (Foucault), o mnogostrukim odnosima povijesnog/prošlog i sadašnjeg, kao i odnosa kolekcionara, (umjetnika)/umjetničkog djela i van-umjetničkog predmeta.

Three exhibitions: r e c o l l e c t i o n
Authors: Andrea Palašti, Veronika Gamulin, Ivana Meštrov
Participants: Juraj Dobrović and Niko Gamulin
The project was implamented at the Juraj Dobrović Collection, Jelsa Municipal Museum, Island of Hvar, Croatia / July 2015.

Three exhibitions: recollection, is a catalog – a photographic documentation of three different thematic exhibitions of the authors Niko Gamulin and Juraj Dobrović, which were (in short-term) placed in the tavern of the family home of Dobrović, in Jelsa on Hvar: (1) Greetings from Jelsa, 2007; (2) Collection of shells family Gamulin, 2008; (3) The beginnings of the modern trade in Jelsa 1880-1928, 2009.
The project is integrally formed on indexing some of the items that were shown at the exhibitions, creating a (digital) archive, in order to broaden access to research on the exhibition practices and to shed light on the functioning of the newly established Kravata Gallery and the Juraj Dobrović Collection in Jelsa. Although thematically very diverse, all the three exhibitions were created from personal/(family!) collections which were primary set outside the context of art. But taking the methodology of a private and passionate collector, by removing objects from their original contexts, as well as by preserving and conceptualizing the collected items in an exhibition format, Niko Gamulin and Juraj Dobrović became, in Buchloh term: artists-as-collector. Niko Gamulin and Juraj Dobrovic are actively and selectively collecting and/or temporary rearticulating, manipulateing and/or postproducing various non-artistic objects (artifacts). Their need to create personal collections, is the result of collecting/holding unusual and often overlooked items, which are then determined and monitored in parallel with the needs for creating archives of information. These informations are than attributed with social values to the objects – they provide multiple meanings and relations between the past, present and future. The personal collections of Niko Gamulin and Juraj Dobrović is shaped by the testimony of such systems, in which the collected objects are defined as cultural artifacts which constructs meanings. In this light, by recollection/(appropriation!) the once forgotten exhibitions, the invisible personal/(family) collections, becomes visible once again, allowses the objects to be re-produced, highlighting the social and aesthetic value. It highlights the metaphorical and social potential of the newly established Kravata Gallery and the Juraj Dobrović Collection, and most importantly, its continued use in the future.
